Garvan St Vincent's Cancer Centre

Planned location of GSV Cancer Centre

The Garvan St Vincent's Cancer Centre (GSVCC) is an initiative of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and St Vincents & Mater Health Sydney (SV&MHS), collaborating to provide national leadership in translational research and the development of personalised medicine approaches to cancer.

The GSVCC will align Garvan's internationally acclaimed cancer research with the best practice cancer services at SV&MHS, one of Australia's leading teaching hospitals with a long history of providing a holistic approach to cancer care. Bringing together researchers and clinicians from across the campus onto a single site, the Centre will allow clinical challenges to directly drive laboratory research and enable research findings to be rapidly translated into clinical application for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients.

Unlike a 'comprehensive cancer centre', the GSVCC will not be aimed at co-ordinating the care of a large volume of cancer patients. Instead, the Centre will focus on the one hand on the molecular biology of cancer, the understanding of which is critical to the development of new diagnostics and therapeutics; and on the other on the delivery of holistic and individualised clinical care.
