Dr Colin ("Charlie") K.W. Watts

Project Leader, Cancer Therapeutics Development Laboratory, Cancer Research Program, Garvan Institute of Medical Research

Email: c.watts 'at' garvan.org.au
Research Group: Cancer Therapeutics Development Laboratory

Dr Watts joined the Garvan in 1990, after post-doctoral studies at the ICRF in London. His research has been concerned with steroid and steroid antagonist action in breast cancer, in particular the mechanisms by which these control cell proliferation and the identification and characterisation of novel cancer-related genes. Recent research has focused on one of these, the ubiquitin ligase EDD, which is critical during embryonic development and is involved in several pathways including DNA repair mechanisms.

After working independently for several years, Dr Watts returned to the Garvan in 2010 and now leads a project to develop novel drugs targeting the altered metabolic pathways of cancers.
