Jianmin undertook undergraduate studies in biology, and then switched to Bioinformatics for his PhD, because he also developed a strong interest in computer science. While doing doctoral and postdoctoral research, Jianmin developed several popular bioinformatics software tools and databases to allow investigation of biological systems from pathway and network levels in addition to classical single gene study.
 
 
 

Jianmin established the Cancer Bioinformatics group in 2010.  His current research is focused on network-based integrative analysis of multidimensional “-omics” datasets generated by deep sequencing of cancer genome, transcriptome and epigenome. The goal of this analysis is to identify candidate driver mutations and pathway aberrations in a specific type of cancer, which could lead to the discovery of novel biomarkers with clinical utility.
