Scientific Positions
The Garvan's Monoclonal Antibody Facility is seeking a Research Assistant who is interested in pursuing a career in biotechnology and monoclonal antibody generation. Previous experience with hybridoma technology, ELISA and animal handling is essential.
The Lung and Colorectal Cancer Group within the Cancer Research Program has recently discovered a new tumour suppressor protein in colorectal cancer. We aim to understand the normal physiological role of this protein and how its deficiency leads to cancer. Our group is following several leads with potential applications in diagnosis, prevention and improved cancer treatment.
We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join a small team undertaking functional molecular work.
The ACRF facility is Garvan's throughput sequencing and genotyping service provider with currently four members of permanent staff. Due to rapid extension of our Mouse Genotyping Service we are seeking a Service Operator whose main responsibilities are the programming of the liquid handler (EPmotion 5075) and preparing Mastermixes for PCR setup and coordinating the DNA-sample storage.
We are seeking a biomedical scientist with a PhD and postdoctoral research experience in cell and molecular biology and protein biochemistry to manage in vitro and in vivo target validation projects in the Cancer Development Laboratory.
Applicants should preferably have experience in the biotech industry, a strong track record in project and staff management and report writing, have excellent laboratory and communication skills.
Enquiries should be directed to Dr Charlie Watts, CDL Project Leader, email c.watts@garvan.org.au, telephone [02] 9295 8195.
We are seeking a Casual Lab Technician for approximately 30 hours per week. The position will be tailored for a third year who is carrying a light course load, who may ultimately be interested in undertaking honours studies in 2011, or, for a person with science qualifications or previous lab experience, who may wish to progress to a research assistant or PhD student. The successful applicant will need to be flexible. This position would be unsuitable for medical students.
The Australian BioResources Facility (ABR) is seeking an experienced microinjectionist to manage the scientific services provided by the transgenic lab as well as oversee DNA preparation and provide input into quality control for the facility. The transgenic lab will offer services in microinjection, blastocyst injection, as well as rederivation, cryopreservation of embryos, sperm and ovaries. The provision of these high tech services will augment the range of services currently offered to researchers.
Applications are invited for a Research Assistant position joining an established collaborative team which studies the molecular mechanisms controlling appetite, energy expenditure and adiposity using several different conditional knockout models.
The successful applicant will have one or two years of experience with a strong background in mouse related work and demonstrated competence in biochemistry type analysis. Knowledge in basic molecular biology techniques, in situ hybridisation immunohistochemistry and other related localisation techniques are an advantage.
Non Scientific Positions
We are seeking to appoint a Tumour Bank Officer to support an international project designed to define the underlying events initiating and driving cancer through a coordinated analysis of the cancer genome in large cohorts of patients.
This position is part-time, to be worked two set days a week with some flexibility required. Based between the Garvan Institute in Darlinghurst and Sydney South West Area Hospitals, it is essential that candidates have their own car and full and current driving licence.
The Garvan's new centralised rodent facility, Australian BioResources is seeking a full-time animal technician for a one year contract. This position is a maternity relief role, but is likely to become permanent at the end of the one year contract.
