Young Garvan
Young Garvan was established in 2003 by a group of young supporters who value the work of the Garvan. Their aim is to educate and inform the younger generation (20-35 age group) about the importance of medical research and its social and ethical impacts on society, and to build an enabling environment that fosters greater awareness and regard for medical research. Young Garvan also have a fundraising aim: to provide a perpetual fund for an annual postdoctoral fellowship for an early career scientist.
Young Garvan raises funds through its corporate sponsorships and through events that include interactive forums and an end of year party. Young Garvan activities are decided on by a committee, which includes Garvan’s Public Awareness & Community Education Manager and a young Garvan scientist. The committee chair is an ex-officio member of the Garvan Research Foundation Board.

As with all fundraising events Young Garvan tries to ensure that the funds raised are invested directly into the fellowship fund, rather than being used for administration and event costs. The donation of products such as food, alcohol and door prizes from the Young Garvan sponsors enables the organisational costs to be kept to a minimum. This year, Young Garvan are enormously grateful for the outstanding support received from their in-kind supporters: Moet Hennessy, 3 Minute Angels, and Ruby Rabbit.
