Garvan’s Peter Wills Bioinformatics Centre receives $1.13 million

Garvan’s Peter Wills Centre for Bioinformatics, which models and predicts diseases by applying information science to biology, received over 1 million dollars from a fundraising evening held by CRI in late September.

Federal Minister for Health and Ageing Tony Abbott announced $1.13 million of funding over three years while those attending the dinner contributed a generous total of $130 000.

Professor John Shine, Garvan's Executive Director, commented: "This much needed support for Garvan's Bioinformatics Centre will help our scientists provide exciting new insights into the prevention and treatment of disorders such as cancer, mental illness, osteoporosis and arthritis."
