Biography
Swetansu gained predoctoral experience in Bioinformatics and Biophysics from Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore. His doctoral studies focussed on deriving structural and functional insights into catalytically active RNA molecules, ribozymes, utilising a combination of experimental and computational approaches. This work lead to a conceptual advancement in understanding RNA mediated catalysis which materialised from a prestigious collaboration between SUNY Buffalo, USA and University of Tokyo, Japan.
Prior to joining Garvan, Swetansu's post doctoral experience in the Industry (Strand LifeSciences and DuPont Pioneer) allowed him to solve problems in diverse areas of bioinformatics research. His work has contributed towards biomarker discovery in oral cancer cohorts, whole genome/transcriptome assembly and annotation of non-model plant species, development of gene discovery and prioritisation algorithms for improving complex traits of agriculturally relevant crops.
Presently, at Garvan, Swetansu develops computational approaches towards understanding the underlying mechanisms of acquired resistance in ovarian cancer patients, the molecular basis of evolution of cold tumours along with developing algorithms to improve patient stratification by leveraging diverse omics datasets.
