Holding a fundraising event is a fun way to raise vital funds and awareness for Garvan's medical research.

Forthcoming Fundraising Events

Strength With Numbers for pancreatic cancer

In November 2014, Rebecca Burn lost her Aunt Danuta to pancreatic cancer - the 5th common cause of cancer deaths in Australia.

Danuta's courage and strength inspired the launch the ‘Strength with Numbers’ campaign, aiming to  raise much needed awareness and funds for research into this disease.

'Strength with Numbers' encourages people to make a small donation of as little as $5 each towards research, as together we can change the statistics and give the next pancreatic cancer patient a chance at life.

Great Xpectations for prostate cancer research

Great Xpectations Crew Great Xpectations Boat

‘Great Xpectations’, an ocean racing yacht, is sailing under a “Prostate Cancer Research” banner to achieve awareness of the disease whilst raising much needed funds for research. Throughout 2015, Great Xpectations will compete in high profile races and regattas throughout 2015, culminating in the 2015 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

Rod Wills, owner and skipper of Great Xpectations, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014. Whilst undergoing treatment, Rod reflected upon how lucky he was to have had an early diagnosis, followed by first-class and successful treatment. Now, Rod and his crew are setting sail to raise awareness and raise vital funds for the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.
