For Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, and to mark their 50th anniversary, Australian fashion house CUE has produced a limited edition 'Sweetheart' t-shirt featuring original artwork from 1968, the year the brand was founded in Sydney. These limited edition t-shirts are available online or in-store now for $75; with $10 from the sale of each t-shirt going to the Garvan Institute of Medical Research’s breast cancer research team.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, claiming the lives of 8 women every day. Thanks to decades of research, the five year survival rate for women who are diagnosed is now at 91%, but there is still more work to do.
Garvan is home to one of the largest breast cancer research groups in Australia. Our scientists are conducting cutting-edge research on the progression of breast cancer, and the development of new treatments. With deep expertise in the sequencing and analysis of the DNA of breast cancer tumours, Garvan researchers are in a unique position to increase understanding of this disease and create more effective personalised therapies.
“I am thrilled to be teaming up with CUE once again to raise funds and awareness for the important work being done at Garvan,” says Dr Samantha Oakes, group leader of the Cell Survival Laboratory in the Cancer Division at Garvan, and one of the faces of the campaign. “It’s fantastic to be able to work with a company as passionate and innovative as CUE is about fashion, as we are about breast cancer research”.
A trendsetting collaboration
CUE has proudly been supporting Garvan’s breast cancer researchers for several years, raising awareness and funds for our researchers and enabling them to continue their cutting-edge work.
By purchasing a sweetheart t-shirt for yourself, or as a gift for someone special, you will not only be supporting this vital research, but will be giving hope to the thousands of women diagnosed with breast cancer every year.
On sale now until stocks last, the CUE sweetheart t-shirt can be purchased online or in-store.
