Aurélie graduated with a M.S (Hons I) in Biomedical Sciences and Biotechnology from the University Lille Nord de France in 2007. During her doctoral studies, she studied the impact of the glycocalyx on breast cancer progression and aggressiveness. She highlighted the role of cell surface glycosylation in breast tumour growth and organ-specific metastatic dissemination. Her research experience at the Yale School of Medicine (Department of Therapeutic Radiology, CT, USA) gave her the invaluable opportunity to develop her knowledge in cancer biology and, most importantly, to discover the stimulating world of personalised medicine.

Aurélie is currently a fulltime scientist in the Cancer Tumour Progression Group of Dr Alex Swarbrick, exploring the effects of the tumour microenvironment on cancer stemness and dormancy in the metastatic setting. In collaboration with her medical colleague Dr Mun Hui, she identified Hedgehog signalling to CAFs as a novel mediator of cancer stem cell plasticity and demonstrated the first clinical benefit from a CAF-directed therapy in patients with metastatic triple negative breast cancer. Her present work combines fundamental discovery techniques such as single cell genomics with the strong use of ‘state of the art’ transgenic models, patient-derived xenografts and clinical tissues in collaboration with clinical partners. Her research projects have a strong translational orientation, main aspiration of the Kinghorn Research Centre, investigating new anti-stromal therapies for patients with advanced breast and prostate cancer.

Aurélie is a current team member of the ProMIS consortium, a member of the Postdoctoral Development committee and an active representative for the Garvan Research Foundation.
