Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are in our DNA. Our people are unique and we know that diverse, inclusive teams makes us stronger, smarter and more innovative. At Garvan, we are committed to celebrating differences and creating an environment where our people feel that they belong.
We understand that true diversity is underpinned by inclusivity and equity. Initiatives include:
• Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) Committee with representation from staff across the Institute
• Celebration of EDIB events at Garvan including International Women’s Day, IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia), NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) and International Day of Persons with Disabilities
• Participation in the Career Revive Program to support women re-entering the workforce
• Representation in the Superstars of STEM Program – a program to smash society’s gender assumptions about scientists and increase the public visibility of women and non-binary people in STEM
