Sydney Science Festival Event
Visions of DNA: our code up close
DNA is at the heart of what we do at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.
Join us for a guided visual exploration of DNA science with our team of animators, researchers, writers and educators.
In this 1.5-2 hour event, you can: visit Garvan's Immersive Visualisation Dome to see the fine details of the amazing processes inside our cells; explore a cell in virtual reality and 3D video; try your hand at our DIY DNA modelling and sequence activities to understand the basics of our genetic code; tour our genome sequencing laboratory to see the technologies used to read DNA; participate in a DNA research Q&A to hear how DNA science is being applied; have your say on the value of different DNA applications; and puzzle your way through an exhibit of different DNA concepts to help us to improve our resources and information for communities.
This event is most suitable for ages 16 and above.
**Please be aware that we are conducting a research project at this event to evaluate our communication materials and activities, which may involve observations of visitors (aged 18+), their interactions and their contributions on the night. All participation will be anonymous and voluntary. Attendees may opt out of the observations either beforehand or on the evening.
