News: Science struts its stuff at FashionLab 2016

The best from fashion and beauty came together to give breast cancer research a boost.

FashionLab collageFashion and beauty heavyweights joined forces to raise funds and awareness for Garvan’s breast cancer research at FashionLab 2016. Set in the Martin Place store of iconic pearler, Paspaley, and hosted by the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and Young Garvan committee, the event inspired celebration, reflection and hope, as guests and sponsors dug deep to support this great cause.

Highlights of the night included presentations from Garvan researcher Dr Samantha Oakes and breast cancer survivor Jane Wiggers de Vries, both styled for this special event by Cue, Paspaley and Bobbi Brown.

Wiggers de Vries gave a moving account of her experience after being diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at 24 years of age. Now 25, she has undergone a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and is cancer-free.

MC’d by Hollywood commentator, Richard Reid, the night included a fashion show of looks from Cue, with Paspaley jewellery and Bobbi Brown makeup.

Goodies included a live auction featuring a dress generously donated by Dion Lee and a ‘locked box’ lucky dip, with prizes including flights to the US with Delta Air Lines, an Estee Lauder hamper, Cue gift voucher and Paspaley Kimberley Bracelet.

With generous support from the likes of Richard Reid, Delta Air Lines, Paspaley, Cue Clothing Co, Bobbi Brown, Dion Lee, IMG, State Custodians, Pullman Hotels, Chello, Estee Lauder Companies, de Beaurepaire Wines and Young Garvan, FashionLab has shown yet again that it is Sydney’s most fashionable fundraiser. All funds raised support Dr Oakes’s breast cancer research.
