Dr Dana Bliuc completed a Masters in Medicine at the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 2004 followed by a PhD from the same university in 2010. During her PhD studies, Dana was awarded an outstanding abstract award at the International Osteoporosis Foundation Asia-Pacific Regional Conference (2006) and the prestigious Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (2007). Recently, she was awarded an Early Career NHMRC Fellowship to continue her post-doctoral studies at the Garvan Institute.
She has worked closely with A/Prof Jacqueline Center on the outcomes of subsequent fracture and mortality following minimal trauma fractures, drawing on data from the Dubbo Ostoporosis Epidemiology Study. She has been instrumental in applying novel statistical techniques to improve our understanding of the overall consequences of low trauma fracture.
She will be playing a major role in the analysis of data from multiple large international studies aimed at understanding why some people with osteoporotic fractures do badly and go on to have another fracture or die earlier than expected.
