Biography

I am a group leader at Garvan-Weizmann Centre for Cellular Genomics and a group leader at UNSW Lowy Cancer Research Centre. Also, I hold a visiting researcher position at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. I got my PhD at Karolinska in 2007 followed by a Postdoctoral training. In 2011, I moved to the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research where I co-developed Smart-seq2, a protocol for full-length single-cell RNA-sequencing and Small-seq, a method to sequence small RNAs in single cells. Later, I accepted a position as a senior researcher at Karolinska Institutet/AstraZeneca Integrated Cardio Metabolic Centre where I developed and patented Smart-seq3, a more sensitive and comprehensive version of single-cell RNA-sequencing.

Our research group focuses on developing novel single-cell technologies to understand the molecular network behind the cell identity and function. Furthermore, we use our evolved technology to study the circulating tumour cells (CTCs). CTC analysis among other components of liquid biopsy can provide unique information from the tumour in a minimally invasive way. In our research, we take a multi-disciplinary approach and collaborate with various national and international groups.
