Immunopathology Group

Our group researches the cellular events associated with haematopoietic and lymphoid tumours, immunodeficiency and allergic inflammation.

Group Leader

We have strong links with the pathology department (SydPath) at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, especially in clinical flow cytometry. Our high-level international contribution has been recognised by the appointment of Associate Professor Sewell as Expert Member of the editorial board of two current WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) volumes:

  • Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues, 5th Edition
  • Cytopathology of Lymphoid Tissue, 1st Edition

In collaboration with Professor Stuart Tangye, we are investigating cellular development in clinical bone marrow specimens, to better understand the events that underlie diseases such as immunodeficiency and lymphoma.

Our group is interested in the mechanism of allergic inflammation, and the various cells and molecules that are involved in the development of allergic diseases. In collaboration with Professor Richard Harvey and colleagues at the St Vincent’s Centre for Applied Medical Research, we are identifying key cells and cytokines in samples from patients with allergic nasal disorders
