Professor Ken Ho
Professor Ken Ho is Emeritus Professor at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, University of New South Wales and Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist, St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was Chair of Research, and pre-eminent senior medical officer at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) in Brisbane, with professorial appointments to the University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology from 2011. His roles covered embedding research into clinical services, building strong collaborative relationships between researchers and clinicians, between the PAH, the Universities and the Translation Research Institute. He led the successful integration of research activities into an electronic health platform at the PAH, the nation’s first large-scale digital hospital. He was Chair, Department of Endocrinology at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Head of Pituitary Research at Garvan and Professor of Medicine at the UNSW from 2000-2011. Ken’s research focus is management of pituitary and metabolic diseases causing obesity and sarcopaenia. He has published over 250 scientific papers and written editorial commentaries for the Lancet. He is an Associate Editor for the European Journal of Endocrinology and inaugural Associate Editor of the Journal of the Endocrine Society. He serves or has served on a number of Editorial Boards of leading journals. He convened international workshops formulating Consensus Position Statements, that have been adopted by professional societies and national health agencies, including the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Medical Science and Health in 2016 and a member of the Academy’s Reports Committee. He received the inaugural 2011 Senior Plenary Award of the Endocrine Society of Australia for research, the 2000 Visiting Trust Professor and the 2008 Asia Oceania Medal of the British Endocrine Society. He is a past-president of the Endocrine Society of Australia, the international Growth Hormone Research Society and the international Pituitary Society. He serves on the governance task force of the US Endocrine Society and has served on the planning, education, program and nomination committees of the US and British Endocrine Societies.
